The brief
This specialised infrastructure project involved constructing a heavy-duty access road to a critical power substation in Entebbe. The road was designed to withstand repeated passage of heavy plant equipment, including 100-tonne transformers and crane trucks.
A particular challenge was the presence of high water table and soft clay soils; our team employed geotextile reinforcement and wick drains to stabilize the sub-grade. The road also incorporated drainage culverts and a turning bay for large vehicles. The client commended our ability to work within a live electrical substation environment with strict safety protocols.
Scope of Work
- Clearing & grubbing
- Excavation of unsuitable soils
- 400mm stabilized crushed stone base
- Double bituminous surface treatment
- Geotextile & wick drains for soft soils
- Drainage culverts & turning bay
Location
Our team mobilized equipment and materials to a remote location with limited road access, requiring careful logistics planning. The project was completed during the dry season to avoid weather-related delays. Since handover, the market has become a vibrant economic hub, benefiting over 300 local vendors and improving food security and income generation in the sub-county.
